Limited Edition Taking Flight charm necklace ~ for sale in my Etsy shop
When Kelly Rae Roberts recently asked me if I wanted to be a part of one of her sponsor giveaways, I became a bit giddy and danced around for a bit. I am a huge fan of her work and I thought it would be fun to create something exclusively for her readers, something that would hold a special meaning for them, me being one of them. She is an artist that has inspired and encouraged me in countless ways.
I very well remember the night I received my copy of her first book Taking Flight. I tore through the packaging to get to it and read it cover to cover. I was so inspired, I could barely sleep. In fact, that same night I wrote a lengthy email to Kelly trying to explain what her book meant to me. I am sure I sounded like some fumbling idiot who wasn't making any sense, but she wrote me back the sweetest response. I have a strong feeling that even though I have yet to meet her in person, that one day I will get the chance to squeeze her and thank her in person for how her art, and her story, have encouraged and inspired me.
I made the above pendant with the sole intention that it would be a fun gift for one lucky reader of Kelly's blog, but then a funny thing happened. Kelly was the first to write back and ask if she could commission one for herself. Well, of course I wasn't going to deny the artist herself so I thought, "Okay, there will be two in the world." Then some of her readers began reaching out to me, asking when/if I would be offering them in my Etsy shop.
This is when I started to feel uncomfortable. I had no intention of selling these pendants; it didn't even occur to me that people would ask me about them. To me, Taking Flight is Kelly Rae's phrase and the necklace was inspired by her, and for her. As I was getting ready to explain that I wouldn't be offering these pendants, I thought I should share with Kelly at least that people were asking about them.
I was surprised by her response: "Offer them!!!" "Yes! Yes! Yes!" "Go for it!" These were her words.
So....
I have enough of the wings and vintage beads to make 20 necklaces. One of them went to the winner of Kelly's giveaway, and one went to Kelly herself. I will be able to offer 18 more as limited edition pendants. Once they are gone, they are gone. I won't be making anymore.
So, if Kelly's book has inspired you, the way it has inspired me, head on over to my Etsy for a little piece of Taking Flight that you can wear close to your heart.
And in the spirit of good karma, I will be hosting a giveaway in a few weeks here on my blog for THREE copies of her book Taking Flight as my way of saying Thank You.
{UPDATE} I have listed the remaining pendants in my shop under the category Taking Flight.
I love this! xoxoxoxxo
